Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday took a jibe at the Trinamool Congress-led government in West Bengal, wondering whether any state in the country would like to implement its model in the context of containing Left Wing Extremism (LWE).
During the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, Trinamool Congress leader Sougata Ray said the West Bengal government had been successful in tackling LWE and asked whether the central government will study the example of West Bengal and apply the same model in other states such as Chhattisgarh.
Elaborating on the West Bengal mode, Roy said that the Mamata Banerjee government carried out development works and gave jobs to tribal youths.
Responding, Shah said the Modi government does not have any issues in implementing models of states that have done well, “but I assume that no state will like to implement the West Bengal model.”
On another query from Congress MP Pradyut Bordoloi, who asked about the plan of the government to contain the insurgency in Northeast, Shah said violence in the region had declined by more than 60 per cent.
