A portion of the roof of the Pune Fire Brigade’s control room, located on the ground floor of the Central Fire Station at Mahatma Phule Peth, collapsed on Friday evening. No casualties have been reported in the incident. However, there was a stir for a while. Sources said the ceiling was rebuilt a year ago.
According to fire officials, the plaster of Paris ceiling collapsed around 6 pm on Friday. Debris fell on telephone equipment and equipment on the spot.
It was found that the roof had weakened due to seepage of water from the toilet on the first floor. Fire brigade sources said cracks have also developed in some other construction works, which were all done a year ago. Sources said that lakhs of rupees were spent on the construction.
When asked whether any investigation would be done regarding the quality of construction work, Chief Fire Officer Sunil Gilbile said, “We have informed the Pune Municipal Corporation ward office about the incident in writing. A portion of the roof, which is about 3 feet by 3 feet in area, had collapsed. It was made of plaster of paris and other materials. Repair work will be done soon.”
