Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange-Patil who has been at loggerheads with the BJP-led Maharashtra government on Friday hit out against the Opposition alliance of Maha Vikas Aghadi for skipping a meeting called by the state government on reservation on July 9.

”The state government had recently called a meeting on reservation. The Maha Vikas Aghadi leaders did not bother to attend the meeting. They could have gone to the meeting and insisted that Marathas be given quota from OBC category. But they skipped the meeting. When they want votes from Marathas, they come rushing and when it comes to raising their voice for the Marathas, they ignore a crucial meeting,” Jarange-Patil said while addressing a mammoth ”peace rally” in Beed.

The Maratha activist said he felt that both the Mahayuti alliance comprising the BJP, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Shinde-led Shiv Sena and their rivals Maha Vikas Aghadi constituting Shiva Sena (UBT), the Congress, NCP (S-P) are no better than the other.

Jarange-Patil, however, said even if the MVA leaders skipped the meeting, the Mahayuti government, on its part, could have taken a decision on providing Marathas the reservation through OBC category. ”It too did not take a decision, citing the absence of the Opposition. How long will you keep giving excuses? ….This was another lame excuse cited for taking a decision,” he said.

He listed out three key demands which he said should be complied with by the government by July 13 or else the government will suffer a blow in the Maharashtra Assembly elections.

Festive offer

The activist today said his three key demands were: Kunbi caste certificates should be given to those who demand it, giving reservation to ‘sage-soyare” (blood relatives) and a law should be enacted that Marathas and Kunbis are one and the same.

Like in his other rallies, this time too Jarange-Patil targeted Maharashtra minister Chhagan Bhujbal who was trying to create a rift between Maratha and OBC communities with the support of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Jarange-Patil reiterated that he will continue to fight for the reservation for the Maratha community till his last breath. ”Our children’s future is at stake and I will not move back even one inch…Those in the government is trying to sabotage my efforts. It will not succeed,” he said.
