An 18-member delegation from Japan’s Shizuoka Prefecture paid a courtesy visit to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, in Gandhinagar on Wednesday, an official release said.
The delegation — led by Atsuyuki Rachi, a member of Shizuoka Prefectural Assembly and Secretary General of India-Japan Friendship Parliamentary League — met the CM with an aim to strengthenen commercial relations between the two nations. According to the release, Rachi has conveyed an interest in building a long-term cordial relationship with Gujarat, while emphasising on people-to-people connections, education and research, tourism, culture, and commercial ties.
The Shizuoka Prefecture ranks fourth in Japan for ‘Make in Japan’ industries, with automobile companies such as Suzuki, Yamaha, Honda and Toyota playing a vital role, Rachi added.
Patel, meanwhile, said that the India-Japan relations have strengthened over the years under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while expressing confidence that Gujarat will take their bilateral relations further.
Like the credibility of ‘Made in Japan’, the ‘Make in India’ initiative — guided by the Zero Defect-Zero Effect mantra — is also dedicated to producing world-class environment friendly products, Patel said, adding that the Gujarat government was committed to providing a favourable environment to Japanese industries operating in Gujarat.
The meeting was also attended by senior Gujarat government officials such as Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) to CM Pankaj Joshi, and ACS (Industries) S J Haider among others.
