The launch of the Oppo Reno 12 Pro (review) –– which can be considered one of the most affordable AI-focused smartphones––marks the start of a new trend in the market. More brands are expected to launch similar smartphones in the coming days, with exclusive AI features and generative AI experiences, which can generate text and images.

CMF Phone 1 has a see-through camera, company working on a fix
Nothing’s CMF has confirmed that its first smartphone, the Phone 1’s 2 MP depth sensor “can sometimes reveal the internal structure of thin or semi-transparent objects, especially when it’s black acrylic material”. In simpler words, the camera can capture see-through images. The OnePlus 8 Pro users had reported the same earlier and the company fixed it with a software update. The company commented that this is due to the lack of an infrared light filter on the sensor, and this can only be accessed on select third-party camera apps. The company’s co-founder Akis Evangelidis has confirmed that the company will restrict this via a similar software update.

Samsung debuts its first smart ring, teases XR headset
Samsung, at the 2nd Galaxy Unpacked 2024 in Paris, introduced its first smart ring, the Galaxy Ring. Priced at $399, it does not require any subscription. It offers features like heart rate, SpO2, and real-time temperature monitoring. The company has also confirmed that it is developing an XR headset in collaboration with Qualcomm and Google, expected to launch in early 2025.

Nord 4 to receive four major OS upgrades, six years of security updates
OnePlus has officially confirmed that the upcoming Nord 4 will be eligible for four years of OS upgrades and six years of security updates, making it the longest-supported smartphone in the brand’s history. The smartphone is expected to launch with Android 14 and will receive updates up to Android 18, and security updates until 2030. In comparison, Samsung and Google offer seven years of OS updates on select smartphones.
